We do not offer uploading directly in PowerPress to your own WordPress install because there are thousands of web hosting companies with limitations setup in PHP with upload file size limits typically between 1-4MB in size. We cannot possibly provide the functionality reliability for large media files in a PHP WordPress plugin.

If you are familiar with your web hosting provider, you should be familiar with FTP, which would be the preferred method for uploading large files mainly because it has built-in resume feature.

The reason you would use Blubrry podcast media hosting is if <u>you do exceeding your web hosting's bandwidth</u>. I hope this makes sense.

Your software is very cool. However your example about podcasters exceeding thier bandwidth is a lame excuse! Yes, I am sure happens, but it is certainly not the norm. If you guys choose not to offer it because you want that just for your hosted customers, then great, just say so. Don't make up some vield excuse about your podcast might get too popular. Great job, Keep up the good work!

The MP3 ID3 tagging feature is only available to those who are Blubrry.com media hosting customers. All you have to do is go into PowerPress menu > Tags page and select the first option to "disable mp3 ID3 tagging". If you're not a paying hosting customer, then something else is causing your tags to be rewritten.

Keep in mind that if you're looking at your media in iTunes, the iTunes application will rewrite the tags unless you turn the feature off. This is why we recommend that you first prefix your blog post titles with the episode number, as both the file name and the title ID3 tag will be re-written by iTunes with the blog post title.

The new PowerPress plugin is OVERWRITING my MP3 ID3 tags. I don't want it to do this. I have changed the settings to Simple, but it still overwrites the ID3 tags. While this is a nice feature for some, others may want to maintain the ID3 tags they've set in the file. Any suggestions?

It goes beyond bandwidth. The majority of shared hosting accounts cannot handle any substantial downloads numbers. If your show is small you may be ok.

But all it takes is a single link from a popular site to bring either you site to it's knees because to many people are trying to download your podcast, or you exceed the server memory allowance for you shared hosting account.

There are valid horror stories about people ending up with hosting bills in the thousands of dollars for exceeding there bandwidth limitations.

The reason we know this, is because once upon a time there where no companies like ours and others that offered hosting based on monthly storage levels and we all had to deal with the consequences of paying for every GB downloaded.

At this time the "Media Url popup" is tied to the Blubrry Podcast Services.

Being that the majority of podcasters do not host there media on the same website that they host their blog we have not added that feature. I would caution you on doing that because many podcaster have ended up with large hosting bills.

All it takes is one show to be popular and you would exceeed the capacity of your hosting account to handle delivery of the file and rack up expensive overage charges. Some podcaster have had their hosting accounts canceled.

Blubrry offers extensive podcast stats for free that go way beyond anything anyone else is providing. If you want truly accurate stats then we encourage you to sign up for a free account. Having used podpress before we had our own plugin I can tell you from personal experience the stats in podpress are not accurate.

The only thing I dont like about the new plugin is you have to use the blubrry hosting service when you want to add a media url using the new feature you talked about. I would rather like to be able to select the media on my own host or service I'm using.
Thanks and I will continue to use this plugin.

Does the "Media URL" popup also work for self-hosted files, or is it limited to media hosted with Blubrry?

These are great improvements, but I still haven't been convinced to move away from PodPress. Let me tell you the only two things keeping me on PodPress at the moment:

Easy media-linking. I upload my media to a folder on my site, and it appears in a drop-down list on my post edit page.
Thorough stats. This is the big one. I want to see how many people downloaded my podcast via RSS, how many listened to it with the online player, and how many manually downloaded the file.

This update is earth shattering. All I can do is sit back and saw wow. The implications of what you have created here is very clear.

No other podcasting company would dare podcasters to control their own destiny, yet at the same time integrate a hosting option this way..

I was happy making money from your ad deals now I can see I am going to have to give Libsyn the old boot. They should have thought of this.

Major Home Run!
