The program profile pages have been redesigned on Blubrry! The new design is in response to the feedback we’ve received from the community. The new design focuses on usability.
We now include a subscribe & share widget on the right column that will make it easier for your audience to find your subscription information. Yahoo and Odeo have been replaced with Google and Microsoft Zune subscription links. The subscribe & share widget includes links to Digg and del.icio.us as well as to your RSS feed.
We’ve added new Play on iPhone buttons within each post. In case you were wondering, the Blubrry Player already supports the iPhone. The new iPhone buttons make it easy for iPhone users to consume your content on Blubrry.com.
We’re just getting started. Watch more more changes to Blubrry.com and the rest of the RawVoice communities!
Popular Blubrry podcast Feed Me Bubbe has gained some more national exposure with a segment on ABC News this evening. The angle of the story is about older people being involved in web videos. I hope I’m still rockin the podcasts when I’m 64!
The dudes from the 2GuysTalking podcast dropped us a line because they want you to know about their 2007 I Hear Your Podcast Contest.
Send them over a demo of your best work and you could win yourself a spot on their network plus free hosting and software. All the details are over at http://www.2guystalking.com/podcastcontest/.
There’s a lot of noise out there in the world of podcasting with respect to making some money from your podcast. Some folks hit you with a hard sell on their podcast profit secrets. Here’s the biggest secret. There are no secrets! You shouldn’t have to pay a cent to find out how to turn your podcast into a financially profitable venture. Just look at podcasters who focus on content and community.
Some of those types of podcasters are right here on Blubrry. Shel and Neville from For Immediate Release are a great example. They recently announced that they have signed up a second sponsor for their podcast.
Shel and Neville were on the GoToMeeting deal with Blubrry for several months but they’ve also enjoyed the flexibility of being able to recruit and manage their own sponsorships.
If you take a look at the history of FIR you get a clue into how they’ve been able to build a show that gets attention and brings in revenue.
Passion - With a capital P folks. These guys love the topics they cover on FIR. They are living and breathing advocates for social media and communications.
Consistency - I don’t think that a week has gone by over the past two years without hearing a show from them.
Engagement - Everyone feels like a part of the show with FIR. They read people’s comments. They play people’s comments. They encourage interaction. They’ve turned their fans into correspondents for the show.
Focused Content - The content coming out of FIR is always engaging and on target. Their content focus is on the use of social media in public relations and corporate communications. As such, they have a very targeted audience.
Friendly Approach - Shel and Neville are two of the most approachable personalities in podcasting.
Hard Work - Quality podcasting takes effort. Many hours are invested in research, preparation, recording, editing and lots more. Two and a half years down the road there is a sizable amount of proof to potential sponsors that FIR can deliver.
These are just a few of the reasons why Shel and Neville are doing well in the podcasting game. They’ve put in the hours to build something meaningful and its starting to pay off.
Of all the things you can learn from the success of FIR, learn this. Content and community come before dollars. Focus on building the first two things over time and opportunities for the third will present themselves.
We worked with this dynamic comedy duo on the Blubrry Jam live event. Some video coming to the blog soon. But we’re glad to have KATG as a part of the Blubrry community. This a pair of dedicated content producers who have a very consistent show. Some folks might say consistently cheeky. Different strokes for different folks ya know. Give a listen if you haven’t already done so.
We like to think of ourselves as out front in a whole new medium of entertainment distribution. We know that the producers have the option of going directly to the audience without intermediaries. So we figured it would be best to create a place that puts the needs of producers and their audiences first.
You will notice that we haven’t put banner ads on the site, although they certainly have been offered to us. We’ve also done our best to attend and/or provide financial support for the various PodCamp events occurring around the world. We have engaged in charitable campaigns and will continue to do so as time and financial resources allow.
At RawVoice we take a long view of the possibilities created by the world of podcasting. We’re not treating it like a gold rush. We’re treating it like a medium that will continue to be more and more of a force as time goes on. Our approach with Blubrry will reflect that.
We know that Blubrry is not the perfect podcast community. We are working to build more advanced tools. We are working to improve usability by adding more features that allow podcasters and their audiences to have a great experience here. We are working to provide more financial opportunities to a wider variety of podcasters. And we’re doing it all with blood, sweat and our personal piggy banks, at least for the moment.
We can’t afford not to listen all the time. We want to listen though. We’re podcasters ourselves so if we don’t listen to ourselves then our shows will suffer too.
Politics are hot. Sites like like TechPresident are tracking how U.S. political candidates use the web. Barack Obama has like three million (okay, but he’s got a lot) friends on MySpace. So what are the podcasts saying?
A quick walk through the Blubrry patch yields a few podcasts on both sides of the U.S. political spectrum.
On The Right
The Truth and Hope Report - Conservative Columnist Adam Graham focuses on politics beyond the spin of the day to the heart of the issues. Truth and Hope is for those who are ready to take action to change their country.
The Right Perspective - NYC’s most dangerous callers to talk radio, Frank from Queens and John of Staten Island, now have their own radio show, taking your phone calls and discussing issues from “The Right Perspective”! Live.
On The Left
Watch It Burn - A Soldier’s Podcast from Iraq, Fort Campbell and Back Home.
There are lots more interesting shows in the politics category on Blubrry. If you want in on what people are really saying about the candidates and the issues get hooked into the podcast conversation!
The bottom line of the story is something that many of the Blubrry faithful already know. Portable media technology (for both content creators and content consumers) is changing the way things are done in the world of media. Its a beautiful thing.
Mignon is a great example of a podcaster who has built a brand around talent that she has parlayed into a quality podcast that is delivered on a very consistent basis. She continues to support and grow the world of podcasting via her QD Now Network whose shows can be found right here on Blubrry.
Green is hot. The environment and the discussion of global warming will continue to heat up (no pun intended) all the way up to the 2008 presidential election in the United States.
I figured I’d take a few moments to see what we’ve got going on Blubrry. I took a stroll over to our Environmental category to see what I could find.
Right off the bat I found a very relevant podcast called America The Green. Their latest episode includes an in depth discussion on the practices of Whole Foods.
I also found the Grist: Environmental News podcast which bills itself as a “top source for news on the environment and green living.” Their most recent episode talks about a gas explosion in the Bay area.
Finally, The Green Majority is a weekly environmental talk show out of Toronto, Canada.
These podcasts also happen to be producing strong content on a regular basis. You’ve got nothing to lose and then you’ll be very smart after you feed your head with some green ideas.
