We are pleased to announce some new features and changes to Blubrry!
First, the account settings page has changed. We’ve cleaned up the menu options by only providing a link to the Statisticss system (if you’ve filled out an advertising survey) and a link to the new Publisher system.
We’ve developed a new interface called the Publisher for members to manage their podcast(s) listed on Blubrry.com. Over the coming weeks we will be adding a number of features to the Publisher system for Blubrry members to utilize. I can’t get into the details what these new features include, but if you snoop around in the settings section you will find that we’re now asking for your twitter user name.
We’ve received a lot of complaints about home page coverage. We’ve changed the logic for the most recent podcast section to randomly select 4 episodes that have been created in the past few hours. we’re re-randomizing these 4 episodes every 15 minutes. This should provide fair exposure to all of the podcasts listed on Blubrry. Remember, your post has to include media in order for it to be included in the home page. blog posts will no longer be included on the home page.
Please contact us if you are having any problems or have suggestions how we can improve blubrry.

There is a syntactical error in the Podpress code which prevents the “Enable Blubrry Statistics” option from working in Podpress. The code fix have been sent to Dan and will hopefully be included in the next version of Podpress. Instructions how to patch Podpress version 8.6 are available on the RawVoice support site linked below.

If you are looking for a top notch player for your podcasts then I strongly recommend that you consider the Blubrry Podcast Player. Here are just a few reasons why our player should be the one that you provide as an option on your website:
- It pops! The Blubrry player pops up so that your audience can continue exploring your site while they enjoy content.
- Show notes. Our player is one of the few that also provides access to your show notes.
- Previous episodes. While our player is configured to start on the current episode your audience can browse through and play previous episodes in your feed.
- Mixed media support. The player supports audio, video and mixed media feeds.
- Your brand is represented. When playing audio posts the Blubrry player is designed to show off your branding.
- Flexible linking options. Although we provide a variety of images to link to the player from in the Member Perks section of the site, you’re free to use any image you want. Simply change the link to the image in our code (as implemented below) and you’ve got a custom link to the player.
<a href=”javascript: var rvgPlayer = window.open(’http://www.blubrry.com/player/?p=838′, ‘RVG_Player’, ‘toolbar=0,status=0,resizable=1,width=640,height=450′); rvgPlayer.focus();”>

If you are into video podcasts then I suggest you take a look at what they’re doing with the Miro project.
This is a free, open source video player that aims to make consuming online video a snap. Miro has been around for a while as the Democracy Player so quite a bit of testing has gone into the product already.
If you’re a video podcaster I think its worth a few moments to create yourself an account over there so you can submit your podcast to their built in channel guide. If you’re a fan of online video and want to see who’s there already you can check our their channel guide.
Channels don’t necessarily need to be in the guide to consume them in the player. Like iTunes, you can subscribe to any proper video podcast by adding the RSS feed to the player.

We’ve discovered Songbird recently and you really should check it out if you surf rich media sites. Songbird is a great browser for surfing rich media and podcasting sites like Blubrry, Podcaster News and Tech Podcast Network.
Songbird is build on the Firefox platform and also serves as a desktop media manager. It supports iTunes DRM audio files, mp3, WMA and Quicktime. You can import your iTunes playlists into Songbird as well so you can continue to create playlists in iTunes and purchase music while enjoying the features of Songbird.
Songbird is Open Source so if you’re a developer you can contribute. Or you can just download the app for free and enjoy the features. I highly encourage you to try surfing Blubrry with this very cool browser.
And if you’re looking for an alternative podcatcher you should check PodBreeze. Its a very new app and the developers would like feedback. Definitely worth a try if you want to be able to have input in the next generation of podcatching apps.

My portable media device (iRiver H320) really is the hub for all of my audio based entertainment needs. I’d love to include video too but I’m waiting for the next gen iPod. I just know that it’s coming soon! Anyway, I’ve been wanting to find a new way to subscribe to podcasts so that my iRiver is the true hub for my audio podcast subscriptions.
For that reason I’ve been trying out the myPodder software from Podcast Ready. The myPodder software is different from most podcatching tools in that it resides directly on your portable media device. So you download the software from the Podcast Ready website and then install the software on your portable device. Once you’ve done that you can manage podcast subscriptions via the myPodder software and the files will download to your portable media device when the device is connected to the computer.
The software is free and is supported on Windows, Mac (includes the iPod), U3 and even Windows Mobile platforms so there’s a real good chance that your device will work with myPodder. The software is pretty easy to use and I was able to add MyCast subscriptions from Blubrry in just a few moments. My only beef with the process was that on install I was automatically subscribed to a number of feeds which I then had to delete. A minor issue, but I think they should remove the default subscriptions from the software.
So if you’ve been looking for a new way to manage your podcast subscriptions on the go then you should definitely give myPodder a try.
