We are proud to announce the availability of the new Blubrry API. The Blubrry API extends our commitment to the community by allowing 3rd party applications and web sites to work with our services.
The new Blubrry API allows developers to build applications to interface with our media hosting and statistics services. Applications can delete, upload and list media files as well as retrieve media statistics information.
The Blubrry API is a hybrid of the RESTful implementation found at Twitter and WebDAV. More technical details may be found on the Blubrry Help site under the section titled Blubrry API.

There are many new features in this release of Blubrry PowerPress. Many of these features were the result from the support and suggestions from the the community. Thanks everyone for your contributions.
Some of the features in depth:
Custom Podcast Feeds
The new Custom Podcast Feeds feature allows podcasters to create additional podcast feeds for syndicating multiple media formats or versions of their podcast. No other WordPress podcasting plugin provides custom podcast feeds. The advantage of using PowerPress Custom Podcast Feeds is you can decide which media file is associated with which feed at the time you edit your blog post.
Enhanced iTunes Summary
The Enhanced iTunes Summary option is intended to save Podcasters time. Many podcasters have asked us to provide an additional text field so you can enter a special iTunes Summary for each podcast episode. When we analyzed what podcasters wanted, we discovered that they simply wantd to enter the same blog post content without the HTML markup. Enabling the Enhanced iTunes Summary option will automatically remove the HTML markup in a readable format for iTunes while including web links and links to embedded images. The web links and embedded images are clickable within iTunes and open in the default browser when clicked.
Simple/Advanced Modes
The addition of the Simple and Advanced modes for managing PowerPress settings was a direct result of the feedback we received from podcasters wanting an easy to configure podcasting plugin for WordPress. Simple mode is perfect for someone starting out who may not understand all of the options and settings available in Blubrry PowerPress. The Simple Mode displays only the essential settings required to get your podcast started.

The Blubrry Powerpress plugin for WordPress version 0.5.0 is now available. The latest version incorporates a number of bug fixes as well as some minor enhancements. The latest version may be downloaded here.
- Options to report media duration and file size next to download links.
- Added <itunes:author> and <itunes:subtitle> to header portion of podcast feeds by default.
- Added <itunes:summary> to post items by default.
- Quotes and extra spaces are no longer removed from from the <itunes:summary> fields.
- Player auto-play bug fixed when quicktime media mixed with non-quicktime media.
- Added option to ping iTunes in a new browser window in settings.
- Verify flash player check added. The check is only necessary if your in-page player no longer appears on your site after upgrading Blubrry Powerpress. (WordPress built in plugin update may corrupt the flash player. This bug in WordPress is fixed in the soon to be released version 2.7)
- Media URL now displays a warning if the URL contains characters which may cause problem for some applications.
The addition of the Media URL warning was in response to issues many podcasters have been having when they publish episodes with file names that contain spaces and other special characters. Spaces and special characters such as apostrophes, # and ? may prevent some web sites and podcasting applications from downloading the media. We recommend only using letters, numbers, dashes and underscores for your file names for maximum compatibility. Users may ignore the warning message if they so desire.

We are pleased to announce some new features and changes to Blubrry!
First, the account settings page has changed. We’ve cleaned up the menu options by only providing a link to the Statisticss system (if you’ve filled out an advertising survey) and a link to the new Publisher system.
We’ve developed a new interface called the Publisher for members to manage their podcast(s) listed on Blubrry.com. Over the coming weeks we will be adding a number of features to the Publisher system for Blubrry members to utilize. I can’t get into the details what these new features include, but if you snoop around in the settings section you will find that we’re now asking for your twitter user name.
We’ve received a lot of complaints about home page coverage. We’ve changed the logic for the most recent podcast section to randomly select 4 episodes that have been created in the past few hours. we’re re-randomizing these 4 episodes every 15 minutes. This should provide fair exposure to all of the podcasts listed on Blubrry. Remember, your post has to include media in order for it to be included in the home page. blog posts will no longer be included on the home page.
Please contact us if you are having any problems or have suggestions how we can improve blubrry.
